Dumgoyne

After Saturday’s adventures in Muirshiel Regional Park we headed north on Sunday for a short day up Dumgoyne. We arrived at the distillery at about 11am and only just found a parking space. On our way to the base of the hill we came across an upended tree that Craig had great fun on.

We quickly made progress with a cuckoo for company and were on the summit at about 12.15. Rather than go straight back down we dropped off the north east side and traversed around the northern slopes to return to the car.

Of course there has to be an obligatory dug photo…

We then headed off to the Beech Tree Inn for burgers and pizza!

The weather was fantastic today (don’t believe everything you hear about West of Scotland weather!) so I spent the morning playing cricket with Craig in the garden.

We then had a lovely afternoon having a wander around the Muirshiel hills. We parked at the Visitor Centre at NS315633 just after 1pm and made our way up our usual route to Windy Hill (NS318638).

Then it was on to the appropriately named Craig Minnan (NS322641). We had a quick bite and photo then headed on to The Heddles which sound like something out of a Harry Potter book!

I also took the chance to show Craig how to use a map and compass which he seemed to pick up quite well. And he also seemed to enjoy the fact that there were no paths…like father, like son!

From there we headed south west to pick up a track back to the Visitor Centre but not before we had a bit of river crossing practice!

Unfortunately the Visitor Centre had closed at 4pm and it was now nearly 5pm so we headed back down the road for a bit more cricket before rewarding ourselves with a chinese takeaway!

Last weekend we had a cracking weekend up in Gairloch in the North West Highlands. Rather than re-write history these links to Jamie and Elaina’s blogs and Kate’s OM Report sum up the weekend perfectly.
