Hornsea Carnival 2010

We had a lovely weekend down in East Yorkshire for the annual Hornsea Carnival. Travelled down on Friday morning and after a couple of stops arrived mid afternoon at my brother Andy’s house. He was on holiday in Greece so we didn’t actually catch up with him and Janet but it was much appreciated letting us stay for the weekend – hope we didn’t leave too much of a mess!

A brief history of the Carnival can be found here. The Friday night Carnival events usually take place on the seafront but this year the whole weekend took place in Hornsea’s Hall Garth Park. So after popping in to see my mum we headed down to the park to go on the waltzers and watch the fireworks.

Saturday saw us meeting up with some of my old school friends, some of whom I’d not seen for many years, outside the Rose & Crown pub to watch the Carnival parade. As we walked down to the town centre a clown with a unicycle over his shoulder ran past us, obviously late for the start of the procession. At the same time a fire engine, also heading for the start stopped and offered him a lift! Absolutely priceless!

After a couple of pints and a good chat about camping trips from the seventies we headed to the park for more rides and live music. OK it’s not T in the Park or Glastonbury but it was still very enjoyable.

That evening Ian and Hilary invited us up to their place for a Barbeque. Again it was good to catch up with old friends and enjoy Ian’s excellent home made real ale. I’m not exaggerating when I say if I’d been served it in a pub I would not have complained, superb!

We headed back on Sunday having thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
