Ayrshire League Underway

Posted in Uncategorized on May 3, 2024 by ayrshiretiger

The newly formed Ayrshire Table Tennis League is now well underway with round two matches played on Monday 29 April. The league is made up of three divisions with six or seven teams in each. Matches are played out of five games between two players (four singles and one doubles) although there is an option to use a third player for the doubles. Interestingly points for the league tables are not awarded simply to the winning team (eg 2 points for a win, 0 point for a loss) but instead if you lose say 3-2 you get 2 points. This is really good as it means even if you lose the first three games in a match you’ve still got something to play for.

There have been a few articles in the local press including this one which includes reference to our Parkinson’s Ayrshire team:

The team is made up of myself, Phil Yeadon, Andy McDonagh and Isaac Alvarez. As I was on holiday in Alcudia I was unavailable for our first matches against South Ayrshire B and Dunlop G. However Phil, Andy and Phil did well gaining 3 points with a 4-1 loss to South Ayrshire B (which includes Joy Paul another Parkinson’s player) and a narrow 3-2 defeat to Dunlop G.

The Division 3 table currently looks like this:

The next round of matches is on Monday 3 June when we play West Kilbride and current leaders Dunlop E followed by a final match against Dunlop F on Monday 17 June. I don’t think we have much chance of being promoted to Division 2 but it would be nice not to finish bottom! At least we won’t be relegated if we do!
